There’s something powerful about watching someone find their voice on paper. For me, it all started during the most difficult season my wife, Andrea, and I had ever walked through. It was heavy and stretching in every way. But even in the tension, we stayed in lock-step with each other. She had been trying to write a book for years, and even in this painful season, I knew she had to keep writing. I would buy her gifts to encourage her. Even through the pain, she did it. She kept writing.
I watched her write through the pain, revisiting past pains and past victories in her life. I think in some ways, using our current pain as a motivation to write. Every time she wanted to stop, I found myself saying the same thing: Keep Writing. It wasn’t just encouragement, it became a declaration. A lifeline. A reminder that there was purpose in the process.
When her book was finished and it was time to navigate the process of publishing, I stepped in to help in any way that I could. We navigated the publishing world together, We stumbled through it, made more mistakes than I care to admit, and learned what not to do. But we got it done. Her book made it into the world, and I was proud of her. Still, something inside me knew it could have been done better, but I got to see first hand the power of watching a story make it to print. Out of this story, “Unmapped” was born.
In 2024, she was invited to speak at a conference in Peru. Her book needed to be translated into Spanish, and that moment opened the door to something new. I translated it myself, reformatted the entire interior, redesigned the cover, and managed the publishing process from start to finish. From it, Sin Un Mapa became a reality. This time, we avoided every pitfall we had encountered the first time, and learned more things we could do differently. Throughout the process, that phrase kept echoing in the background: Keep Writing.
Not long after that, my pastor, close friend, and co-founder of Pinpoint Publishing, Manny Rivera, decided to publish one of his books. He went with a well-known self-publishing company, and while things started out smoothly, they quickly unraveled. There were delays, miscommunications, and unnecessary hurdles. The whole time I kept thinking, We can do this better.
Manny had another book ready to go, and I told him, Let me typeset it. Let me see if I can give you the kind of publishing experience we’ve been hoping for. So I did. With his unique feedback on what authors are looking for, we went through the process to discover what authors wanted. Needed.
We published 52 Days of Discipleship, and this time there were no hiccups. We had found a rhythm, a system, and a passion. The two of us realized that if we could help each other, we could help others. We could build something that would empower authors to take control of their publishing journey, and avoid the mistakes we made along the way.
That’s how Pinpoint Publishing was born. Not from a business idea, but from real-life stories. From frustration, from growth, and from a desire to see others succeed. Our vision is simple. We exist to empower authors and redefine what publishing should look like. We believe that authors should be free to do what they were created to do. Write. We believe publishing shouldn’t be a barrier, it should be a bridge. Our mission is simple. We want authors to be free to do what they were created to do. Keep Writing.
Almost immediately after crafting our vision, an angel investor saw the value and the potential of Pinpoint Publishing, and we were able to acquire funding to go all out for the business. This gave us the ability to scale immediately, so we could offer a full range of services straight out of the gate so that we could make sure our authors got everything a larger company could offer, while still getting the attention they need to do what they feel called to do. Keep Writing.
Since then, we’ve built a creative community of editors, designers, typesetters, illustrators, web designers, and consultants who walk alongside authors every step of the way. From the first idea to the final product, we’re there. We don’t just offer services. We offer support. We make sure that by the end of the process, our authors don’t just have a publishing company, they have a family of supporters. We know that at the end of it all, they can look back and say, This is how publishing should be.
At the heart of everything we do is that same phrase that started it all. The one I first said to my wife when she was writing in the dark. The one I now say to every author we work with, because we believe in their voice and their story.
Keep Writing.
